Let’s be clear. Scripture IS the inspired WORD OF GOD. This does not mean the authors of each book transcribed the spoken words of God. What I believe it means, and the foundation of my reflections, is that the authors of each book of the bible, were chosen individuals “moved” or “inspired” to put to paper their experience of the Almighty. These may be stories they grew up with; things they actually experienced in their own lives; Prayers that moved in their hearts; Answers to prayers they received; family histories; Eye witness reports; Spiritual Journals, Letters to other believers; and so much more.
I also believe that just as the authors were inspired to write, thousand of years later, you and I are inspired as we read and embrace it. I know of no one who is the last word on the meaning of Scripture, yet if we are inspired or moved by what we read an hear, then I believe that God is moving in us as much as he was in the ones who wrote it. Just as when we gaze upon a beautiful gem, we see only one side. As we share what we see, we open up some of the beauty so that others can see as well.
My personal prayer is that we look at our time together not so much as a teaching and learning about God’s Word, but rather as a Journey or a Moment in which we let the Word, as rich as it is, dwell in our hearts through faith. And through our time together come to know God, Father-Son-Spirit in all his wonderous WISDOM and LOVE.
From the Gospel of John we read… “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (JOHN 1:1-5)
